1. Throwing a Pine Cone
I'm on a mountain path.
It feels like a hiking trail.

I suddenly pick up a pine cone on the path.
And then I pick up a rock the size of a chestnut.

This is a mountain ridge.
The trees are short.
To the left are rice paddies.
Next to the rice paddies is a stream, quite wide.
The distance between the rice paddies and the ridge I'm on is quite far.
It seems several kilometers.
The mountain seems quite high.
The stream seems deep, too.

I suddenly throw a pine cone toward the rice paddies.
The pine cone flies with force.
It continues to fly in a straight line.

As if in a slow-motion video, the pine cone flies slowly.
It seems to fly over a kilometer or two.
It flies straight ahead. I was wondering if I'd fall off mid-run, but even I, the one who threw it, was surprised.

A baseball game was in full swing on the rice paddy embankment.
The opposing team scores.
- Safe.
Someone says.
- No, it's out.
- The pine cone I threw from the mountain over there came in first.

My cousin then slowly rewinds the video.

He slowly plays the scene of me picking up the pine cone, then my throw, from a different angle than mine.
